Sound-Writing Workshop is an accessible, interactive, and instructive presentation of contemporary songwriting, composition, and improvisation by vocalist and songwriter Sam West. The purpose of the presentation is to expose participants to the key components of modern western music through creative performance and discussion. Participants will learn how to utilize these key components (including groove, chord structure, harmony, melody, and lyrics) in an improvisational setting and apply them to their individual creative journey. Target audience is 5 to 18 but is accessible to any age group. The workshop will feature a performance demonstration by the Sam West Trio featuring percussionist Ron Coulter and guitarist Jay Reed.
FREE to the public and a great opportunity for students and adults to learn about and interact with music and a variety of instruments!
The workshop is Friday, May 4 from 5:00 p.m. – 5:45 p.m. at the MonDak. A concert follows the workshop at 7:00 p.m.
